  1. The first image does a great job displaying the category of light. The warm colors of oranges and reds throughout the buildings really help capture the warmth and glow of evening light. The image also captures the long shadows that appear during this time. I think it is an added benefit that in this image the long shadows are accompanied with dark colored buildings as well. It creates a greater distinction in the highlights and shadows presented in the photograph. The reflection photograph does a great job capturing the elements of the reflection and the inside of the building. The framing creates a distinct break between the reflection and the actual structure that is showing the reflection. The yellow color of the wall helps to separate these two pieces. The light and shadows within the reflection somewhat distract my attention away from the reflection as a whole. I think a way to improve this would be to see more of the darker reflection framed within the right side of the image. I believe this will create more of a balance between elements in the reflection. The indoor lighting photograph makes great use of lines, highlights, and shadows. The light itself being its own long line, and then accompanied by the darker shadow underneath and the reflection of its own light against the wall. It creates a nice visual path for the eye to move along. I think a way to improve the image is by reducing the amount of shadow put into the left of the frame. The exterior and interior artificial light nicely captures the light within its subjects. The shapes in the photograph absorb and show off the various highlights and shadows made from the light. I also think the photograph does a great job color matching. The black and white of the chess board and pieces are matched nicely to the black and white colors of the background. One way this could be improved is by having a sharper focus on the foreground subjects. I feel the out of focus subjects distract from the rest of the image. The flash photograph creates an excellent visual path from the focal point to each corner of the image. The various colors such as reds and greens and gold, and the intricate shapes allow the eye to move freely around the image. The multi-directional bouquet also help to guide the eye to various parts of the photograph. I think a way to improve the image would be to display more of the shadows caused by the flash. I am able to notice very light shadows on in the background. I think adding the subject’s shadows would create more shapes and color distinctions within the photograph.

  2. Hi Jada, I'm going to critique your photos.
-evening light: I really like the shadows on the buildings and the orange/red colors across the whole image. The sky is really cool as well. I like how the left side of the image is dark and the right is bright adding some contrast. The building in the middle right side seems to be a focal point since all the light is shining on that building. Using f/14 was also a good choice to keep most of the image in focus.
-reflection: I like how there is almost a double reflection. You have the reflection from the glass and the mirrors which is really cool because it breaks up the reflection in bright parts and dull parts. Cool contrast. I think the left side of the photo is a little distracting, maybe finding another point of view would make the composition a little better.
-indoor lighting: I like the shades of color throughout the photo. The bright object in the middle, then the darker light on the bottom right and then the dark on the left. I also like the composition as a whole with the leading line of the light getting cut off in the top right leading to the dark on the left.
-exterior/interior: Great photo overall. I like how the pieces in the back are focused and the pieces in front are not and the pieces in the front have light shining off of them adds a nice touch. I like the pov and the lighting on each piece is really cool.
-flash: I really like the pov of this photo. I like the focal point in the middle then leads your eyes out to the flowers then to the pattern on the outer edges. Hard to see the shadows from the flash. I don't know if it was day when you shot this or what but I think having the whole scene really dark before you used the flash would look really cool.
Overall, these were really good photos, good job!
